You'll need the 4 Hour CE Course.
If you hold multiple Texas Barbering and Cosmetology licenses, your continuing education requirement is based on the license you've held for the fewest years. You won't qualify for the 2 Hour CE requirement until all of your licenses have reached the 15 year mark.
TDLR looks at each license individually when determining your continuing education requirement.
If any of your Barbering and Cosmetology licenses has been held for less than 15 years, you'll complete the 4 Hour CE Course.
Once every license you hold has been active for 15 years or more, you'll only need the 2 Hour CE Course.
Let's say you've held:
• Your Barber license for 18 years
• Your Cosmetology Operator license for 10 years
Even though one license qualifies for the reduced requirement, you'll still complete the 4 Hour CE Course because your Cosmetology Operator license has not yet reached 15 years.
The good news? You only complete one approved CE course, and it satisfies the renewal requirements for all of your eligible Barbering and Cosmetology licenses.
Many professionals think they'll automatically switch to the 2 Hour CE Course once one license reaches 15 years.
That's a common misunderstanding.
The reduced 2 Hour CE requirement doesn't apply until every Barbering and Cosmetology license you hold has been active for at least 15 years.
If one of your licenses is under 15 years old, you'll complete the 4 Hour CE Course.
Once all of your licenses reach the 15 year milestone, you'll qualify for the 2 Hour CE Course going forward.
