Yes. If you are over 65 years old, you are still required to complete continuing education to renew your Texas Barbering or Cosmetology license.
The previous Age 65 exemption has been removed by TDLR. However, if you have held your license for 15 years or longer, you qualify for the reduced 2-hour continuing education requirement, regardless of your age.
Texas now determines your continuing education requirements based on how long you've held your license, not your age.
๐ If you've held your license for less than 15 years, you'll complete the standard 4-hour CE requirement for your license.
๐ If you've held your license for 15 years or more, you'll only need 2 hours of continuing education, which includes:
Your age does not change these requirements.
Many licensees still remember the former Age 65 exemption. That exemption is no longer available under current TDLR rules.
If you're unsure whether you qualify for the reduced 2 hour requirement, the determining factor is 15 years of licensure, not your birthday.
Texas licensing requirements occasionally change, and older information found online can be confusing.
At My CE Space, we keep our courses updated with the latest TDLR requirements so you can choose the correct course and renew your license with confidence.
